"Any suggestions as to any good modern shoes that do not have the straps that will work in this application? Alternatively, any sources for older shoes and cleats?

Walter Nash Tucson, Baja AZ USA"

I'm in the same boat as Walter. The best that I've seen so far has been Shimano's triathalon shoes. The main attraction for me is that they only have one velcro strap. Unfortunately, it looks like they are only available in white or silver... yeck!!

There were some some Adidas shoes with carbon soles, but fairly classic looks, available at discount recently via a major mailorder house. Kinda tempting, but still pricey, and no way to know how well they fit. My preference is to shop for shoes at my LBS.

ebay seems to be the most common source for vintage shoes. Some CR members have sold shoes at times, and Barron Corpuz used to find some to sell too (is he still running the Renaissance Cycles site?).
