Well stated Peter. This Italian lust thing touches very close to home for me. I relate to the Alfa Romeo story with my lust for all things Ducati. I finally got one several years ago, and it was all I dreamed of. When a family illness caused me to stay closer to home, I sold it and used the proceeds to buy a steel Eddy Merckx with a Record gruppo - people still tease me for spending the same amount on a bicycle as what I sold the Ducati for. I don't regret it for a second!

But my dad would have had a stroke if I pined for an Italian bike that was built... in California! Maybe that was because we had Italian cars in the family but always French or British bikes. I just assumed Dave's Masi was Italian. And yep I just cannot get off on a California-built bike let alone a Masi. Frankly I wanted Dave to ride a Raleigh Pro. But the best thing about all this is the sheer Italian passion even California-built Masis evoke. I love that. I don't give a toss about eBay bids. But if a bike has mojo like an Alfa does, well I can appreciate that. And your post brings this whole thing back into perspective. Thanks.
