Folks: The "warm soft glow of a British bike is from what is called "stove black" baking lacquer (enamel?) that is still available. It takes a 'stove' to bake it for a couple of hours after the paint has thoroughly dried. It is not quite a lost art, but it is seldom used any more except on smaller items. I used this process to restore older antique woodworking tools that had a baked finish. The finished product was stunning, and looked as if a tool was recently produced. BT
