I worked at a store which was one of Motta Bikes' (probably few) US dealers. The store, Portland, Oregon's Bike Gallery, sold less than a dozen bikes and frames combined in 1984. The wholesaler was out of Tulsa, OK, and was called CKR. I don't know the name(s) of this company's personnel. Bikes with the stars and stripes were used by Motta's 1984 Giro d'Italia team. Several American riders were on this team, two from Oregon--Karl Maxon, who finished second on one stage after a long breakaway, and Tim Rutledge, who was last overall finisher. I don't recall the name of the primary sponsor of the team. Coincedentally, I saw TWO, count 'em, TWO stars and stripes Motta track bikes last winter. One was brought to me for fork straightening and headset installation, and another was parked locked to a pole in downtown Portland--doubtless in use by an urban rider who probably hadn't seen another bike of that brand!
