I finally found Norris' post - i.e. the one that sort of explained it all:

It really would be intresting to know what otehr special parts they supplied to other manufacturers. I've had 2 of those seat posts. Once came on my Peugeot PGN-10, which was all-French apart from the Weinmann brakes. For some reason, this particular post never quite worked properly when I replaced the worn out saddle with a Concor. And remember, I'm just barely more than a 98 pound (7 stone) weakling.

But I have one of these seat posts on my LeJeune track bike and it's rock solid; and I've used it with both a Concor and a Sella Italia Turbo. So maybe the "defective" one was OK, but the saddle was the problem? I can't say because I seem to have lost it when I replaced it. Regards, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (USA)
