Hey, all

Well, I got that eBay Italvega ('70 Nuovo Record) I was talking about, the closer I look at it, the more I like it.

The NR RD says "PATENT 71." The 5 spd 14-21 freewheel is maked "EVEREST," "G. CAIMI-CASTANO" and "ITALY." Never heard of that. There's even the requisite presta/schraeder adaptor screwed onto the FD clamp bolt, so I'm well on my way to coolsville.

Well, this brings up all sorts of questions and a new wish list of stuff. There will be more on down the road, but for now:

I know when Benotto Cellotape was popular, and it's discussed in the archives, but when was it first available? Just curious about how incorrect it will be when I put it on there.

What's the best source of info (other than the archives, I'll be picking my way through those at length) for new users of tubulars?

Back rim is tweaked, not sure if it's truable. Fiamme Red Labels show up in the archives a lot, how hard are they to come by?

Is there anything good for dissolving hard old tubular cement, or do I just have to suck it up and start scraping?

Before wading into the eBay shark pool, WTB:

1. An appropriate headset to replace the steel indexed one that came on it. Definitely not period correct, as indexing didn't come out for another 15 years, correct? ;-). Don't know the size or threading yet. Prefer alloy, steel OK.

2. Brake shoes for Universal Mod 61 centerpulls

3. Tubulars, not too d**n skinny.

4. Limit screws for NR FD (it has them but they're rusty and I'm lazy).

5. A 26.8mm or so alloy seatpost. The steel one in there isn't marked, and that's what my old vernier calipers read.

There'll be more later of course. I picked it up last night and haven't taken apart the hubs or BB. The first 3 items are just to get me on the road.

P.S., also looking for some 32H dark anodized MA-40s or equivalent box-section clincher rims for an OT late '80's restoration.
