The Pic of the day was, apparently, taken in the derny's very first season as it was introduced only in 1938. Amazingly it is still possible to purchase a "new" machine and most spares are available including an eleven sprocket for less than two quid! Regarding what happened in the event of a breakdown, in the company's publicity material they claimed that they had never had a breakdown in a race! Although the derny is still in use on the track I recall that in the later Bordeaux-Paris Kawasaki motor bikes (about 90cc) were used. Ray Green, Harrow, Middlesex
