Is there any reliable source for this statement?

What could possibly be learned from taking a Cinelli apart, other than that they used a LOT of pins, which I found out when replacing a crumpled top and down tube on a Cinelli for Spence Wolf in 1961.

Konno may have wanted an intimate look at the beefy +GF+ bottom bracket shell, cast seat lug, and sloping crown, otherwise the Cinelli construction was unremarkable.

Konno certainly had no lack of ideas of his own and may have been one of the top few innovative builders in Japan, if not the world.
