Dear Mr. Romeu: I have just received your very thoughtful e-Mail. I think you might en joy one of my late father's favorite stories. A famous critic was taken to Caruso's debut. After a stunning perfor mance, he was asked his opinion of the singer. He replied " he san g very well, but his feet are much too big." George Hollenberg, MD

The analogy is fundmentally flawed, alas. The cinelli laser was built using some kind of plastic resin to achieve the aero look of the frame, and that resin often did not wear well. This bears directly on the value of the frame, both as art, and as functional tool. Caruso's feet had nothing to do with his singing. The Cinelli Laser's flaws absolutely detract from its essential appeal, at least, to me.

Not only does the resin make the frame heavier for no good reason, the aero-fairing would have no functional purpose below about 40 mph, and even then its effect would be minimal, especially considering the resistance of the rider.

Defending the Laser is like defending a beautiful child with a narcissistic personality disorder: you do it for emotional reasons, but don't expect any reasonably intelligent person to take objective argument seriously..
