Subject: [CR]Engraved head tube on Alan bike

A friend just gave me an early Alan bike. Instead of decals, it has "Alan" engraved on the lower head tube front and a sort of leafy floral thing on the upper front of the head tube. When did Alan start using decals? I tried the archives and there were over 7000 entries for Alan, but I could not find this information.
