I found a PHIL hub which was made for the infamous disc brake. somewhere along the line someone cut the hub out of the rim without removing the hub adapter. any ideas on how to remove that? I know ABOUT spoking a rim on using the other flange holes but its the early hub with multiple parts ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The fun part of this challenge is that the goal should be to make sure that the adapter is never again used. With that perspective, here are some options:

1) cut it, parallel to the axis of the hub, using a thin blade on a Dremel. This is likely to slot the hub threads, but they are steel and won't be functionally impaired.

2) try grabbing the piece with a chain whip. This is guaranteed to mess with the splines, again assuring that it won't be used again, and just might work.

3) Send it to me, care of Harvey's Phil Disk Brake Refuge, for curating. I might send the naked hub back to you. BTW, the disk hub is likely to be at least 130 mm OLN, and might be 140 or 145. I think I still have the notes on which axle ends (adapters) are right for whatever configuration you want.
