The Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour is a 2 day event, about 40 miles a day. Saturday was warm and sunny, up in the low 80s, and Sunday dawned cool, maybe below 50 to start, warming to around 60 by afternoon. A bit of rain in the AM too, but it did not last. Great riding weather! At the Saturday start, there was a 'Blessing of the Bikes" and other frivolity. An adapted reading from Shakespears Henry the VIII. I'll bring a copy to Cirque for Dale.

The Brass gizmo is a period correct Primus stove. This is the Organiser's bike, a 1935 FW Evans. He stowed the burner and pot supports in his 1935 Carradice bag!

The ride follows the main roads near the Mississippi River, so it is mostly flat, but there is a big 2 mile climb up the Bay City Hill, just south of Bay City, WI. I guess 5 or 6 %. There are also a couple of big climbs that are optional off the main road on both sides of the river.

The attractive brunette is Joanne and she is single, as far as I could tell. That and more will have me returning to this ride for sure. I have photos too on Photobucket, under my user name, rononice. I'll get the link to you soon.

Thoroughly enjoyable Chris!

A few questions:

- What was being read there at the start?

- Was it all in one day? (Seemed to have a broad climatic change for just one day! Plus faces appeared that were not apparent at start, etc.)

- What was that round brass gizmo hanging from the organizer's bike top tube?

- Was it more or less flat terrain circling the lake?

- Did you get in trouble with the boyfriend for taking so many pics of that attractive brunette? :)

Thanks Dale

Hello CR gang:? ?

After a delightful experience in 2006, we had an absolute blast at the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour this year! Here are three slideshows of photos of all the bikes and other scenery:? ?

http://www.adventurecorps.com/chronicles/2007/2007pepin.html ?

Also, as mentioned previously on this list:? ?

On a related note, we visited my friend Gene Oberpriller's bike shop in Minneapolis on Friday. A combo bike shop - art gallery - cafe, this is one of the coolest places I know. (The basement is stuffed with old bikes and they're all for sale.) Website: http://www.oneononebike.com/ ?

Gene had a matching pair of his and hers 1957-1958 Rabeneick 3-speeds. which we bought! Gene is shipping them to us here.? ?

The bikes are 90-100% intact, as far as I can tell, including lights, fenders, etc. The women's version even has the panniers and the built-in toolkit with the original tools in it! Apparently some American GI brought them home from Germany and never rode them again.? ?

Coincidentally, one of the 3-Speed Tour driving forces had photographed and written up these bikes for his darn nifty blog, so click this link and scroll way down to the appropriate section. There are some seriously cool little features in these bikes, even if you're not a 3-speed buff.? ?

The bikes arrive tomorrow and we can't wait to ride them! We are totally stoked about them and will also be announcing some 3-Speed Adventure Society rides and events soon.? ?
