Daniel,

Thanks for posting the update. If Charlie is sort of burned out now;

it would only take one or two more to drive the man insane. Case in

point. We need to draw the line somewhere. If one is so determined

to "save" something, do it yourself or pay stupid money to someone who

feels they can deal with it. That leaves me out. I'll focus on making

the collectables for the future. Let someone else deal with the touch- ups.

Dear Group, I no sooner posted my earlier message about my friend Charlie Dixon

than it occurred to me that some folks on the list might wish to contact him regarding their own bicycles. I should say that Charlie works on my

bikes as a personal favor to me. In all honesty, he is a little burned out

at the moment, and I have to coax him quite a bit to take on another of my projects. I have often suggested to him that he restore bicycles for a living, or, at the very least, as a sideline. His answer is always an emphatic "No." When and if he ever decides to offer his services to

the public, I will be happy to post his phone number here on the list.

One of the morals to be drawn, I think, has probably been learned by many on

the list by now: when one finds an individual willing to spend long hours working on an old bicycle for you, he is worth is weight in gold.
