I used to design and implement email protocols way back in the 1980's. Many systems even today only transfer mail on 10 minute boundaries. Most list members poll the archive only once or twice a day because 100 mails in your mailbox is untenable. There is a time spread of at 12 hours between some senders (UK) and some receivers (Pacific) of CR mail.

When I offer multiple copies of the same item to the list, I already have a policy of 1 per customer if some people want several and the offering is oversubscribed.

Due to the vagaries of email, the next time I offer something I'm going to wait 8 or 16 hours after posting a "for sale" message, and then pick a winner randomly among the "yes" people ...
