A quick reply to Art Link's enquiry about pre-war Alcyon frames. For the most part the top frames...and possibly others lower in this company's ran ge, were bronze-welded ( fillet-brazed)
I have a 1936 Tour de France model that has this lugless structure throughout even to including a very attractive and unique "aero" type fork crown. I also have a slightly later, possibly 1939, Alcyon porteur that is lugless, but does use a standard type of crown. This is a very elegant fram e.
Recently I obtained what I think is a late 40s/early 50s Alcyon road rac ing frame. Built with Nervex Pro lugs and an unknown type of steel plate of rear drop-outs, it is especially light. Unfortunately it has had an aeroso l respray over the original light gold, and all traces of tubing transfers have disappeared.
If anyone one wants to save an early lugless Alcyon, that is genera lly in reasonable condition, including paint, decals, and a very elab orate headbadge,apart from the fact that the front fork is badly deformed, they should contact List member Nelson Miller, who is threatening to put it in the scrap bin. If I didn't live so far away I would have taken the fram e on myself...
