In my experience, shallac requires reapplication at least annually.

Did mine strictly according to Steve Snowlings book too, and even when only riding them to and from, and then on, the track, they'd be showing loosened arears within the season. Tubs that hadn't flatted never made it to the next season without needing to be re-shallaced.
