I believe the Japanese still practice cyclotouring much more than U.S. cyclists do.? That is, either a weekend or full day bike ride without going the full panniers route.? I mentioned last week a Portuguese collector.? He also is a member of a cyclotouring club in Portugal.? He described it to my friend as taking a loaf of bread and bottle of wine along with you on a leisurely ride and stopping along the way for lunch.? I know none of my rides are like that.? The closest we get is a ride to a German bakery where we spend a maximum of 30 minutes resting and partaking of pastry before heading back.? I get chided for carrying a third water bottle in my jersey pocket, let alone packing a handlebar bag or rack mounted bag.? A couple of the guys/gals did take a 3 day ride last year, overnighting along the way.? I guess I would call that cyclotouring?but they didn't do the sleeping bag, tent sort of thing.? Jonathan, what are you doing in Washington state next month?? Is that cyclotouring?? Lou Deeter, Orlando FL USA

I know next to nothing about this maker, however, I'm curious to know why (if there is an answer) collectors in Japan seem have to have such an affinity for these bikes? Apparently they're also willing to pay well for what they fancy too. More power to them as far as I'm concerned-looks they have have a real appreciation for Herse bikes and I would imagine take good care of them as well.
