RE: Inch Pitch Systems - Newbie Questions

I'm not quite old enough to remember inch pitch systems. If someone could help, I will use three current ebay auctions for picture reference.

See item : 280082204622 NEW DEPARTURE - INCH PITCH (Skip Link) - SPROCKET/ COG http://ebay.com/<blah> ssPageN ame=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018

and also item : 7249487866 Cog for inch-pitch chain, 8 tooth http://ebay.com/<blah> PageNam e=STRK:MEWA:IT

and also item : 140138269338 Chain Coventry 1" pitch x 3/16" http://ebay.com/<blah> ssPageN ame=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004

--- Here are the questions :

If I've put together a NOS Chater Lea Inch Pitch chainset :

(1) Should I care whether it's a block or roller chain? (2) Any comments of the pros and cons of block vs. roller? (3) In the above referenced cog ebay offerings, which cog is best for block vs. roller? (4) Can anyone comment on the "value" of Renold Elite vs. Coventry roller chains? (5) And for our older UK friends ... would you really have seen fixed single gear inch-pitch drives on the road as late as 1949?

All answers should be in the context of a vintage appropriate UK fixed/fixed flip/flop inch pitch setup. If we have any list members riding inch-pitch fixed, any and all comments and advice are truly welcome.

Many Thanks,
