Fall colors in New Hampshire, vintage weekend bike rides, October 6th and 7th. Location: Hillsborough, Nh. About 20 miles west of Concord. About 1.5 hours north of Boston. Total attendance: up to 8 people (restricted by house and lawn size).
Our house's back door/lawn is on the lake, excellent for camping, we have a canoe, and there's swimming. We are 1/2 mile from a 1400 acre nature preserve where there is 20+ miles of dirt trails that are all mountain-bikeable, and there's a great collection of dirt roads and hardtop roads meandering through all the lakes and ponds back here "in civilization". Starting about 1pm saturday, I was thinking of rides and whatever in the afternoon(dinner at a local, inexpensive but excellent local restaurant ??). Maybe a sunset ride along the Contoocook followed by a Saturday overnight on the lawn camping for 8 total people (<2 could stay inside the house). A breakfast ride to a local diner Sunday AM, a ride afterwards from there, followed by lunch or an early start on a trip home. Lots of time to enjoy the Fall leaves which should be almost at their peak then. There is a world class Ice Cream shop (3 miles away) in town too!! Generally I envision it as a low key event, people can chose how much or how little they want to ride, and they could just come for the Saturday, or both days (preferable). Hopefully people will bring vintage or KOF bikes. So, you'll need a tent and sleeping bag, $$ for food, and a bike with *big tires* and *low gears* (lots of sketchy, steep hills here). A mountainbike is recommended for the sometimes gnarly downhills in the nature preserve.
