If anyone is going to want a pretty vantage point for the Tour Saturday the 15th, you might consider coming to Hermann, the epicenter of Missouri's wine industry. (Before the Californians snicker too loudly, let me remind you that Hermann's Stone Hill Winery was the 3rd largest in the world prior to Prohibition and when problems beset the vines in France and later in CA in the 1800s, rootstocks from Missouri were shipped to both areas and are still being grown onto today.) Anyway, the Edward Jones sprint to the top of Stone Hill in Hermann would be a wonderful vantage point with the added prospect of, after the race has passed (it crosses on the new Missouri River Kit Bond Bridge and then loops throughout town) you could spend the rest of a hopefully idyllic Sept afternoon at Stone Hill.

Remember, too, the rolling road closures ahead of the race, especially any of you coming out via Washington, MO on Hwy 100.

Also, there is a 30 miles ride departing from Stone Hill around 8 AM so you'll be back in time for the race. It is not for the faint of heart as there is about 3000 feet of vertical climbing, some of it at 15% plus, so if you want to do it on a vintage machine it may be smart to pick something with a TA rather than a 52-45 Campy for a crankset.

Now, if any of you CRers are considering coming, please let me know in advance (via different email please: KenKaren2003@yahoo.com ) as I will try to be as hospitable as possible. You'll see my office sign just uphill from the winery.
