Subject: [CR]Bottom Bracket Sleeves

After digging out crud, cleaning and greasing the parts, I went to three LBSs looking for sleeves. Didn't stock them or use them unless the bike came with them. Remembering a drain P-trap I had to replace on the BR sink, the O.D. was 1-1/2 in. I went to Home Depot and bought a 1-1/2 in. x 8 in. piece of brass Slip-Joint Tailpiece (Also Known As Extension Tubes) for $2.00. Scored a line around it and cut off what I needed with a Dremel cut off tool. A tubing cutter would have been neater, but I didn't have one. I've done several and it seems to keep the area cleaner. I like the business card idea which I'll try next time. Maybe tack them in with a little contact cement. Free, simpler, and lighter with less hassle. For those with cut-outs, gold plated tubes are available for $45.00 to add a bit of elegance and impress anyone who might be in a position to look through the cut-out.
