Sorting out all the responses to my request for help--some were on list, some were off list...

Crankset: It is marked 'Super Competition', which I believe is a Mod. 57, but the chain rings look like Mod. 63. Rats.

Spindle: Definitely not an SR Ti. I had one a few years ago, and it was so polished and shiny. The one I have was never polished...it is steel and not well finished. I think Craig is correct when he states (see posting below) that the spindle is a Stronglight...the balls in the assembly are 1/4" and the spindle seems to fit the Stronglight crankset.

Campy cups: Both cups are marked 1.370x24 tpi. Only the fixed side is marked "con sfere DA 3/16". Am I correct to assume that the cups are mis-matched--that the adjustable cup is a later model?

My conclusions: The bike originally came equipped with early campy BB with 3/16" balls, Campy spindle and crankset. At some point the spindle, crankset and balls were replaced with Stronglight spindle and 1/4" balls, while the adjustable cup was replaced with more recent Campy model. Rats.

Thanks for all the responses...if my conclusions don't hold up, please post comments.

Hi,

spindle is from a model 57 or 63 stronglight with a 1/4' ball bearing and the campy cup sounds like 1st generation campy 1958 3/16" with a ball bearing. they don't go together.
