Concerning the Gios on ebay..

http://ebay.com/<blah>

A very cool frame (I haven't seen that particular bb cutout before, but I suppose they were around), but a really terrible paint-job. Way too thick. So thick, that even if that thing fit me, I'd pass. Even if it was priced right, which it's not.

But, of course, that's just me, others will feel differently. That said, though, I happen to have a 59cm Gios Professional in-house at the moment. Probably made about 1980. White with blue panels. It'll be going up for sale soon. It has the original finish, in fairly decent condition, and the difference between it and the frame on ebay is extreme. The frame I have here has nice, thin paint. You can see the lugs very clearly, everything is very crisp and attractive.

I understand that current environmental laws mean we probably won't ever see such lovely, thin paint on frames ever again (unless you can find a painter willing to try to duplicate the look with current paints..it can be done, but it takes a great deal of time and patience, and many thin, thin coats, to pull it off)...all the more reason to keep looking for original, or to keep after your painter to make it thin!

To me, paint that's too thick just makes a restoration look fake, no matter how careful the job is otherwise.
