Subject: [CR]Was Gios, now braze ons

Jay writes<Regarding the braze ons, I was under the impression that frame makers didn't use braze ons until the late 70's. Am I wrong?> It is my recollection that no braze ons was a fashion thing that started in the late fifties and ended in the early seventies. Even throughout this period lever bosses and a chainstay stop were fairly common. In the fifties braze-ons were normal. Wasn't the original campag front clanger designed for covered cable? I bought an old stock Gios, probably dated from the early eighties, that had unusual braze ons. It had cable guides on top of the bracket but a braze on front changer bracket. I think that most makers had changed to under bracket tunnels some time before they introduced braze on front changers. Ray Green, Harrow, Middlesex
