Hello All,
A belated thank you all who attended the ride. The weather certainly cooperated with clear skies and temps in the upper 50s. This was the largest turn out to date with over 20 participants. Its interesting owning and riding these old bikes. Its typical for people to be concerned about reliability. I overheard comments about last minute derailleur adjustments and just finishing up assembly the night before the ride. I could certainly idenify with those concerns as I just got the Bianchi Paris-Roubiax shifting dialed in a day before the ride and new sew-ups installed just days earlier. The ride went without a hitch. Jan and Peter just returned from Europe days earlier. Unfortunately Peter was out do to illness but Jan showed and honored Guy with having the coolest bike--- his 1952 Bianchi Campione del Mundo. Guy got some goodies from the new Museo del Ciclismo Madonna del Ghisallo. We were pleasantly surprised to have Brett Horton join us for lunch. Brett brought 2-3 portfolios of rare vintage photos of Coppi and Merckx. What a delight, after wiping all the excess pasta sauce on Dave Jensens wool trainer, I dove into the Coppi picture collection. Hundreds of pictures and some quite moving with a grieving mother and grandson with the newspaper on the family kitchen table-- (sad). I liked the pics of Coppi off the bike the best, socialising and fooling around. THANKS Brett!
