I had a different problem with those pads on anodized rims. It seems these pads would melt enough to promptly leave rough deposits on the rims, and after scrubbing them off a few times using Scotchbrite, I gave up on these pads.

Anodizing doesn't conduct heat well, so I guess the surface temperatures run higher under the pads.
