Subject: [CR]Stem n Bar shifters

I put on a tall stem making the reach from the bars to the SR levers on the downtube seem longer. ( But the thing is I sit comfortably now) I have considered bar end shifters- Somehow more appealing would be mounting those shift levers on the vertical portion of the stem. I realize this was done in the past within non-highline bikes. But it seemed like a good alternative.

Soo 1. Will they shift as well as barends 2. Are the stem clamps still available and where?
