Here's how to remove rock-solid brake hoods. First follow David Snyder's suggestion and boil them in water for a long time. When the stink of the boiling brakes and hoods becomes annoying, take Chaz Vasta's advice and add some citrus cleaner to the water. (I used "Orange Clean.") Boil for a couple of hours or until your whole house smells quite pleasant again. Let your brew sit over night. Peel off the really squishy hoods. Polish brakes to suit.

Thanks to all who responded. And a special nod to John Betmanis for suggesting soaking in gasoline. I had that in mind to begin with, but decided to keep it as a last resort. As a kid, I had a little episode with gasoline. And to Andrew Mor who suggested using a crock pot. That would have been easier, but I don't have one.

Thanks again,
