CR List:

Thought I might share this mailing that I sent out this evening to everyone who has registered on VeloBase.com with the rest of the CR List who might be interested in hearing what is new on the website. As always I welcome any and all members of the CR list to join and contribute what you wish to the growing collection of information about vintage cycling components (and more).

Velobase.com is growing by the day, both in members and in components, catalogs, and various other information about Vintage Cycling. Last night the VeloBase Component Database topped the 500 milestone from over 65 different brands, contributed by our members who have now reached over 150 strong. I have recently added and updated a large number of Shimano components, as well as adding many of the Campagnolo 50th Anniversary group. I have recently added fields to track both the Country the component comes from as well as the weight of the component. VeloBase.com members who's membership has been upgraded to Vintage User or Certified Vintage is welcomed to browse the existing database and add or edit any missing or incorrect information that may be needed. There are lots of places where there are holes in the information about a component that I'm sure someone out there will know.

There are a number of new features on VeloBase.com since the last update. The VeloBase.com Visual Component Search allows you to see up to 10 Components per page with photos to quickly browse through the collection looking for a particular component. This Search type is quickly becoming the most popular way to browse the database. I have also added Next / Previous buttons on the View Component Detail page to allow you to easily move through the Search Results without going back to the List View.

The Tools & Charts section of the website has also been added to. The latest versions of my Gear Calculator and Gear Comparer are both up on the website available for use. I am also working on a Fork Geometry Calculator. This page also has a listing of Restoration & Wrenching Articles that currently have 3 articles. I am actively looking for volunteer authors to add additional articles to this section.

More recently I have added the first non-Component centered section of the website. The Head Badge Gallery currently has 20+ badges and growing. You can search badges by several different attributes, and we currently have badges representing 10 different countries of origin. I look forward to seeing what badges the Velobase.com community has to contribute to this new section of the website which will be the first step towards adding frames / bicycles to the site in the future.

Lastly, the most recent major addition to the website is what I am calling the Brand Directory. Each Brand that is represented on VeloBase.com is categorized by Country on this page. Looking for the right derailleur to put on that new French bike you just picked up? This might be a good place to start looking for options. Click on any Brand to see details about the brand, including the Components broken down by Category or Group. There is also a place to enter general information about the brand and a place to author an article about the History of the Brand. I have most of the brands categorized by country at this time, and welcome the velobase.com members to add and edit the general and history information.

That about concludes the October Member Update to VeloBase.com. Feel free to contact me with any ideas, suggestions, questions or other feedback about the website. For those who do contact me, I usually respond to emails from my gmail email account: cuda67@gmail.com.
