Scott Goldsmith joined me for a ride to today's cyclocross race in my home town of Middletown. At the race we parked our bikes for a moment, and on returning found two young men discussing some feature of Scott's be-fendered Chris Kwale. Scott introduced himself as the owner, and asked if they had a question... one of the young men asked if the shift levers had once been mounted on the downtube (implying that there had once been a set of braze-ons). Realizing that they thought it was an older bike, Scott told them that it is, in fact, a new frameset.
The young man's comment...
"Oh... so it's a new bike built to LOOK like an old bike."
