I'm no fan of sand blasting, but I'm pretty certain it's not what caused that surface texture on the Gloria...that's pretty definitely what's left after a protracted battle with rust. Media blasting of any sort would've gotten down to the same pitted surface. Chemicals, too, if they were used to remove the paint *and* the rust.

I think there's a list member who can enlighten us about the frame's state, since the current owner outed this auction several days ago.

This once lovely bike is the poster child for using paint remover or plastic bead blasting rather than sand blasting to remove old paint. The bike can no longer be restored to original by chrome plating the lugs,but a much paler approximation can be achieved with paint( "all the world is a stage"). I doubt it will achieve reserve,knowing its earlier Ebay sales price, and the great array of period components offered with it. Yet,the Venus di Milo is still lovely without her arms.
