I had the good fortune to have Lou Deeter personally deliver a bike to my house, and spend a few quality hours with him, including lunch at a local Cuban restaurant - Lou and I don't miss too many meals :)
Lou is right on both counts, I am a fairly neat and organized person, but I also cleaned up the garage before his arrival. I've been meaning to post some pics of my garage ever since Guy Apple asked about our home shops/shrines, but I keep getting sidetracked by other more exciting projects, like the 72 Super and more recently, the 84 Specialissima that Lou delivered in his bike hauler (a top of the line Porsche Cayenne - that thing hauls in more than one way).
I also finally met my local CR fellow member Garth Libre and his friend Rob, whom Garth has succesfully steered from modern beer can frames into appreciation of lugged steel bikes. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Rob becomes a CR member and starts contributing posts. Rob brought over a 3-Rensho built Specialized Allez that he bought from Lou a few months ago. He's had it restored by local painter Gary Cole, and built up with a beautiful Superbe gruppo, as a replica of the bike from the movie American Flyers. Rob lives only a few minutes from me, so I'll be doing a photo shoot on his bike soon - but first I have to finish the Super, do the garage pics, and get started on the Specialissima.

Ray is either very neat or he cleaned up for my visit. I was in awe of his tool bench and peg board. I've thought about all the bikes he has and other than a non-decaled Motobecane, I think all of them are Italian, very much like the little Alfa spyder in the driveway. Two bikes have gold plated lugs. He obviously likes unusual Colnago frames too as he has a bunch. After the tour, we hopped in my bike hauler and drove to South Beach. I've heard so much about this place, I had to see it. It lived up to expectations. But, before we got to the strip, Ray took me to a Cuban restaurant where he did all the talking. I think the only English words were between me and him. Great food. Garth Libre came over after we returned to Ray's house with his friend, who was shocked to find out that Ray lives about two minutes from his house!! They brought bikes to look at too, so we all enjoyed a little bike talk for a few minutes before I had to go play corporate boy again. Thanks for hosting me Ray. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL USA
