they sold Cyclotouriste chainring sets for the 5 VIS arms. But there were also Criterium chainring sets, Criterium Adapteurs, Piste chainrings and Piste chainrings to fit the Criterium Adapteur.

No, I did not know that. Difference would be teeth/ring I suppose. Ok - for a 5 VIS described as a "cyclotouriste" how would one identify the ring sets to determine if the crank was actually a "cyclotouriste" set-up or a "criterium" set-up, etc... ?

If I understand correctly the "cyclotouriste" is the 5 VIS arms with cyclotouriste chainring set while a 5VIS arm fitted with Criterium chainring set would be a "criterium" crank. Is this correct ?

Thanks.

Of course, as far as I know, the TA company never actually called the base Pro 5 VIS crankset "Cyclotouriste", although they sold Cyclotouriste chainring sets for the 5 VIS arms. But there were also Criterium chainring sets, Criterium Adapteurs, Piste chainrings and Piste chainrings to fit the Criterium Adapteur. (Piste = Track)

By the way, for all intents and purposes, their tandem timing chainrings are 3/32" Piste rings with an ultra-minimal tooth count. (And on my tandem, we replaced those small timing rings with track - i.e. Piste - chainrings.)

I actually have examples of all this stuff in my house, but no decent photos. Still, a good place to look is here: http://www.blackbirdsf.org/ta/pro5.html and scroll down for the pieces with a "p" prefix, such as p205 and p1755. Presumably, "p" indicates Piste, but I've never seen that stated explicitly. So perhaps "p" indicates "pas de problem"? AmitiƩs, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (USA)
