If one begins an auction with a set price in mind one is happy to accept, why even begin the listing under the pretense of it being a normal high bid wins auction of specified length knowing full well it's likely that the auction will never run its course? It strikes me as both more honest and straightforward to simply put your item up with a BIN at that figure from the start. That way everyone knows what the score is instead of playing games and changing the terms of sale in mid-course, rewarding the bidder who is trying to circumvent the advertised auction terms and punishing those potential buyers who naively accept the "auction" as being as it is actually described in the listing.
