Thankyou
I am really avoiding a real triple but a wide range double is the goal. Considering the following 3 options ( The first at least doesn't permanently alter or compromise my existing crank)
1. What I really had in mind was maintaining a double that is really a triple (as far as BB length is concerned). I have a 34 bailout cog in the back. (14 - 16 - 18 - 21 - 24 - 34 "Megarange" hyperglide. SRAM 58 chain. The rear is a SR derailler hybridized to a Rally long cage. Soooo....Don't know if this works but I had in mind on my Campy SR crank to have a cyclocross ring on the outer. Then a 50 SR and then a 36 inner ( via the willow or TA tripilizer) Do you think this works? My bottom bracket already on my 83 California Masi is Italian threaded. What type and dimension bottom bracket would I use to accommodate this?
2 A listmember has a custom crank that he offered me does similar but it is a Custom Gipiemme crank.(no pics yet) It goes like this:Gipiemme triple crankset setup as wide step double. crankarms Gipiemme triple 170mm chain rings: campagnolo cyclocross chainguard 751 222 size Campagnolo GS 52 ( I would substitute 48 or 50 here) tooth (in middle position) GPME inner 36 tooth drilled and threaded mounts to inside of spider but unlike campy #1048/5 arm is reinforced and blind holes for third ring bolt circle. (do not go all the way thru the arm) this is a bright , shiny combination, clean, polished, very slight tooth wear.
( The spider arms are thicker on the Gipiemmse than the Campy SR so the blind bore without going all the way through is OK they tell me)
3 Last option is find someone local to just drill my SR spider to take a common pattern for a double.
Aldo Said : I just built-up an Assenmacher with NR front derailleur, Rally rear derailleur, typical Campy shift levers, Avocet triple crankset (30-43-49), and 13-28 7-speed fw. The NR front derailleur works fine with this combination.
