Today saw another unexpected find at one of our LBSs. In the used bike
rack was a Gudereit (mid-price German) Mixed with a saddle which I´ve
never seen before, which isn´t to say much as there aren´t many Idéales in Germany. Also the fact that I haven´t found anything on it on the
net doesn´t say much given my rudimentary computer knowledge.
Anyway, the saddle is a No. 92 Diagonale (and this is what puzzles me -
diagonal? The leather? The `Diagonale´ French randonneur route?) which
also bears the "rodée main selon Rebour" stamp and very nice large diameter copper rivets. The saddle is about two inches shorter (lady´s
model?) than your standard B.17, but just as wide. It has been hardly ridden and graces my saddle glass case as I write, digesting a light dressing of Proofide.
So, is there anyone who can tell me what age this saddle might be, if it is rare, and what there is to know about it?
If there should be any answers, please do not send photos or scans. My
computer is on analogue, POTS internet and downloading attached files takes ages. Thanks.
Regards, Toni Theilmeier, Belm, Germany
P.S.: No trolling here; the saddle is staying in my saddle glass case until a fitting bike for it has been found. Besides, it hasn´t finished its meal yet.
P.P.S.: I now have a nice Gudereit lady´s bike with a plastic saddle
for sale...
