Maybe, but isn't that what being a historian (amateur or otherwise) is all about? When the thing you're studying actually happened, no one is paying much attention (make em look good and get em out the door) to its significance in relation to many other things and influences, some yet to happen in the future, that only become apparent and more significant over time, when we gain the perspective to step back to think and learn.

As bike collectors/historians, we preserve that which, when made, was not considered collectable, except maybe by the bike groupie lunatic fringe! That's past tense, guys. ;>)
