Tim, I bought a Schwinn World Voyageur from you a few months ago, a project nearing completion. They were spec'd with Shimano Crane GS rear derailleur and Shimano Titlist front. The Titlist seems like it would work well for your Proteus. Suntour Cyclone wasn't introduced until 1975, so they would be just slightly off for a 1973 bike. Thanks for all your Miyata One Thousand help on the MiyataSpecTour list! ++++++++++++++++++++ The Shimano titlist is one of my favorites, and I think it is vastly under-rated. Not a lightweight, but strong and darned near idiot-proof. You can even remove the cage for cleaning. Back then, Bill Boston used to modify Campy Record fronts so they would reach out farther, for his tandems. The Titlist is much easier to modify. Since the attachment of cage to body is only on the inner cage plate, it can be detached. For our curved-tube Schwinn Town & Country tandem, the seat post angle at the attachment point near vertical, and the attachment wanted to move forward, too. Easily done, and at the same time I could put in a spacer to move the action out further. And the final touch: extending the cage with pieces from another one. Worked for years, but may your bikes never need such kludging!
