Michael,
I haven't seen the auction, and I'm not completely up to speed as to exa ctly when the Colnago Mexico was introduced (which is from my understand ing a Super, except built from the lighter Columbus KL tubeset), but som etime prior to 1981 or so; because Dave Tesch had one he rode and raced on when he appeared in CA to work at the San Marcos co-op. My impression is that the bike was somewhere around a '78 or '79.
The crown with the club AND the word "Colnago" engraved below it appears somewhere around '76 or maybe '77. There was a change in the shape of t he club cutout in the BB shell; I suspect due to the change from the bul ge formed shells of the earlier bikes (stamped cutouts) to the later b ikes with IC BB shells (which would be cast in) the shape changed. Don't know when they went from stamped to IC BB shells, but I suspect somewhe re in the late 70's (or so it appears).
Like I said, I didn't look at the auction, but it doesn't sound funny to me, off hand.

Dear CR Listers:
There is an interesting 1970s Colnago Super (Mexico?) on ebay item:
120172171573. The 56 cm bike has a lot of panto Colnago parts and an
Ottusi saddle. Boy, I've lusted after that one for years. The only
strange thing I find is the fork, which has a club and the name Colnago
panto on the crown. To my knowledge, that would make the frame a little
younger. The other odd bit is the club cutout in the BB; not the
typical shape. I've bought stuff from the seller in Switzerland and
he's straight up. Though his shipping prices are high at $200. Finally,
the seller thanks Steve Massland for his help in dating and technical
support.
