Hi,
I'm trying to find out a bit more about a Holdsworth frame I bought via eba
y, it belonged to the previous owners father, who had it from new. I believ
e it to be from the 1936 - 1938 period, as the stays don't taper, they are
just filed near the braze ends and the headstock cups are part of the lugs.
It was bought with a restorable BSA crank and an old/used simplex champion
du monde derailleur again pointing to this period. It has been repainted s
ometime in its past, hence the incorrect headbadge but the serial number (4
031) is in the correct place (top of the seatpost) and I believe the 'holds
worth' serial numbering sequence again, points to this period. I have tried
to visualise the frame shape against some of the catalogue images on 'the
holdsworth' website but its not easy. All I can say is its very light for i
ts age and similar in shape (allowing for the larger headstock) to a '76' M
istral frame I have. Has anyone any thoughts ? I'm planning to repaint and
use it as a single speed, it can be viewed at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/
