Pic of the Day 25 November, 2007 Bernard Hinault's 1981 Time Trial Bike

The 1981 Tour de France featured six time trials - two team events and four individual. The powerful TI-Raleigh-Creda team won both TTTs, while Bernard Hinault won all four individual time trials, in addition to a mountain stage, on his way to over victory.

Here we see the Yellow Jersey finishing an individual time trial (probably stage 20 in St. Priest). Note the box-section Mavic rims, aero brake cable routing, reversed front brake caliper, flattened frame tubes (fork blades, seattube, downtube, and seat stays), aero bottle cage, braze-on front derailleur. Looks like mostly Campagnolo Super Record gruppo with track (no quill) pedals. Note also the walking heels on the Le Coq Sportif shoes. From "Tour 81" by Kennedy Brothers Publishing Ltd.
