Subject: [CR]a poem about Ted Ernst

Inspired by Aldo's recent poetry and an off list conversation with Ted Ernst I wrote a poem.

Ted Ernst hails a fellow cyclist passing in the opposite direction

Toe-clips waves. iPod does not.

Fixed gear, supple motion. Big ring, mashing.

Cottered crank once made savage attacks. Carbon crank doesn’t have a jump.

Steel bars went straight as he threw his partner in. Carbon bars can’t look back, bike veers abruptly.

Strap helmet predicted his opponent’s move. Motorola fantasizes that Johan will tell him.

Timing, instinct, courage… has stood on the podium. Pulse meter, power meter, ErgoBrain… is asleep.

Butted steel waves hello to his brother of the wheel who is picking up empty cans and bottles. Carbon fiber in his SUV leans on the horn at someone for obeying the speed limit.
