Mike,

Very nice bicycle. If this is actually the bicycle that Simon rode in the 1983 Tour, the original insignias have been removed from the frame. The 1983 Tour de France bikes had additional stickers, gaving the frame an appearance similar to the better steel Peugeot bikes from that period. Like this one: http://home.wanadoo.nl/peugeotshow/images/1984_1.jpg

It's a bit strange, since the 1983 catalogues show the plain version of the frame, just like yours. But photos from the 1983 race show the more "adorned" version. I also recall this pretty well. I was cylo-touring in France and Belgium at the time, and - for a few days - there were many photographs of Simon in the newspaper. Until he abandoned, he was leading the Tour while riding with a broken collarbone, so he received lots of attention. (I can't recall where I was when John Kennedy was shot, but I know exactly where I was when Pascal Simon abandoned the Tour.) AmitiƩs, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (USA)
