For me it was never about the cost but always about the bike.
I agree with Tom, when it becomes less than fun thats when it crosses the line. I don't have any bikes with storied provenance, or historical significance so I throw on what parts I happen to have around and enjoy the bike while I collect the period correct components.
Yah it's easier to buy a complete bike, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.
And as for the comment from an ex list member, maybe thats why he's an ex list member?
