While I agree with and enjoy most of your posts...I think this latest one was off-base. I think that when you read the email regarding the "hidden details" as conferring a "feeling of superiority", you were off base, and perhaps something has been lost in the translation.
It doesn't confer a sense of superiority, but rather pleasure...which is the whole point of this exercise, isn't it (heavens knows, I DON'T do it for the "exercise"!)? As everyone here knows, I am a fan of Gitane bikes. I could have a "better" or superior bicycle, both in fit and finish, but I wouldn't be happy. I don't feel superior to anyone on my French bike, mainly because the bikes aren't inherently superior. But I like them...which is why I ride them.
