I knew John Stinsman, but haven't seen him for a long time. John was an industrial arts teacher (if I recall correctly) who built exquisite bikes as a sideline for a long time. May have later gone into it full-time.
Light weight was a passion for him, as was outstanding craftsmanship.
John was also a real rider, and cared about the community. He put together one of the Eastern Tandem Rallies a couple of decades ago. It featured hills and a we bit 'o torrent the last day, but that's not his fault.
I hope he's still well, and still riding.

For those who may have an interest, just posted photos of my recently acquired 1981 STINSMEN "VELOCE" tandem on Wool Jersey.
These are pre clean-up and pre component change (e.g., switch back to barcons and SunTour derails). In my opinion, a very nicely built tandem that's pretty darn light too!!!

Hope Dale considers adding John Stinsmen to the list of USA builders on the CR site.
