Subject: [CR]Fabrication inquiry - french threaded speedplay pedals

My joints are getting creaky. I'd like to enjoy long bike rides (100 to 900 miles) on my classic bikes using modern pedals and shoes which are ergonomically more friendly than clips, straps and vintage shoes.

The problem is that several of my classic rides have french threaded cranks and most modern pedals are 9/16 x 20 (English/BSA) threads. Normally the mechanics solution to this problem is to retap the threads on the cranks. I am reluctant to do that with my Herse and some Stronglight 57 and 49A cranks, I have.

I got a quote to produce some french threaded (14mm x 1.25) axles for speedplay X/2 clipless pedals. These are the ones that look like lolipops. Speedplay won't do a run of french threaded X/2's. I asked. Paragon Machine Works has given me a quote of $85/pair for quantity 10 and $60/pair for quantity 30. This is done in 17-4 Stainless Steel like the factory 9/16 x 20 axles. The lead time is about 6 weeks. Is anyone interested in a pair or three. If so, contact me. Once I see the level of interest I'll get an updated quote and then work out the details re payment, shipping. Maybe, if I'm overwhelmed, I'll contact speedplay again.
