Dee,

A shot of air via a pneumatic hose might help expand the grip a bit. Watch your pressure though.

I do what Mike does and use compressed air to get stubborn grips off. I stick the nose of my blow off gun into the end of the grip and usually that creates a layer of air that allows the grip to come off. Of course I'm assuming you have access to an air compressor. I've had bad luck spraying a variety of substances including soapy water.
