...Ted Ernst correctly pointed out to me that the pedal axles with shorter threaded sections were also made for the early Record cranks with the caps on the insides of the pedal holes. (Or maybe the original cotterless alloy cranks were designed with the short threaded cottered crank pedals in mind?)
