After seeing some examples of catastrophic failure of Campag and other cranks on a couple of web sites, they prompted me to examine my own equipment. I did find a stress riser on a Stronglight 106 by the pedal threads. I filed and polished until it blended in smooth.

I would think it would be safe until the next stress riser appeared. I have never had component fail but you never know. Who knows?
